Before Messrs. P. L. Primo and G. Yon der Hcydo Esqs., J.P.'s.] i Drunkenness. —Four offenders were fined in varying amounts, or' the usual alternative of imprisonment. Daniel Crawford was sentenced to 7 days' hard labour, and James Heaton, an habitual drunkard, got 12 months' imprisonment. Samuel Sykes was discharged on promising to go to Dargaville. Breach of the Merchant Shipping and Seamen's Act.—Eugene Austen, Patrick Flanaghan, James Ingram,- and William Ahern, were charged with a breach of the Merchant Shipping and Seamen's Act, 1877, by being absent without leave from the barque Dunkeld. The captain did not press the charge, and they were ordered to be sent back to the vessel. ":

Larceny.—Annie Long, a young girl aged 14, was charged* with breaking and entering the residence of Edward Hall, at Penrose, and stealing a watch and chain, valued £10, also 3a 5d in money. - Mr. Pardy said the girl was the daughter'of a highly respectable man at Christ:hureh. He would ask that the case he remanded till to-morrow so that the Resident Magistrate, Mr. Barstow, might deal with it, if deemed desirable, in a summary way, rather than as an indictable offence. Remanded accordingly.
