PROPOSED' NEW FERRY SERVICE.
A meeting of gentlemen to consider the advisability of starting a new ferry service between Auckland and the North Shore was held at the Devonport Hall last night. Twenty-two persons wore present, the majority of them being influential residents. After considerable discussion, it was resolved to form a company with a capital of £10,000, in £1 shares. Messrs. J. B. Russell, Edson, Alison, Harbutt, Fenton, Quick, and Heath were appointed provisional directors, and Mr. Tanner secretary. Mr. Quick signed to take shares to the extent of £1000, Mr. Alison £250, Mr. Fenton £100, and seventeen other gentlemen consented to take more or less shares, the amounts to be stated a few days hence. It is proposed to build fast boats, reduce the fares, and confine the running of the boats to between Devonport and Auckland.
