Auckland writes: —" 1. In what year was the steamship Great Eastern launched ? 2. "What is her tonnage? 3. What is her horse-power?"—l. The launching of this steamer began on the 3rd Nov. 1857 ind was finally completed on the 31st January, ISSS. 2. The weight of the ship is 12,000 tons; hei ordinary light draught is 12,000 tons, but is said to be capable of carrying much more of general cargo. 3. She has two sets of driving engines, the engines to work tho paddles and those to work the screw propeller. The former are equal to 1000 horse-power nominal, and tho latter to 1000 horse-power nominal. The vessel is 692 feet long, and S3 feet broad.
