TUKUKINO AGAIN OBSTRUCTING THE KOMATA ROAD.

RESULT OF THE HIKURANGI ING.The Upper Thames natives who attended the meeting at Hikurangi have returned to their own district full of zeal and confidence, and as a consequence, Tukukino has obstructed the construction of the road over the Komata. As our readers are aware, the Hon. Mr. Rolleston, Native Minister, lately visited the district, and saw Tukukino on the subject. That chief did not give permission for the road to be made, but Mr. Rolleston told him that after a certain time the work would be proceeded with in any case. This was accordingly done, and for some time all -went well, but it seems that Tukukino has returned from seeing Tawhiao in a very bounceable frame of mind, and has stopped the work, which is under charge of Mr. Kenny, surveyor. In consequence of the telegrams received, Mr.- Percy Smith, Chief Surveyor, left last night for the Thames, and will go to Ohinemuri to-day. | The work of making the road will be continued if possible. It is said that the Government are determined to continue it now it is begun, and that Tukukino will have to take the consequences of any obstructive action.
