MR. FIRTH AND SIR GEORGE GREY.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —-I was well pleased to see that such a man as Mr. J. C. Firth had come out in his usual straightforward manner to take up some of Sir George Grey's assertions. Now, Mr. Firth has given Sir George a chance to prove what he has stated at a public meeting. Let us see if he is the man to take it up, or, if not, will he admit his error in making such charges against the Crown Lands Boards as he has done, for it is a very serious charge to make against such men as compose those Boards. I am afraid Sir George Grey has got into the habit of making assertions that he thinks will take with the people he is addressing, well knowing that what lie is saying is contrary to facts. It goes down at the time. Why, I say with Mi*. Firth, did not Sir George make some attempt to remedy all these defects he talks about when lie had the chance ? Now, Sir, I think all persons will feel thankful to Mr. Firth for having taken up this question (unless they are too '' grey " to see any other colour), and of giving Sir George a chance to prove his words, if he can, which I doubt.—l am, &c., Observer. May 2S.
