THEATRE ROYAL: ''ROMEO AND JULIET."
Another Sliakesperian revival greeted the audience at the Theatre Royal in Romeo and Juliet, one of the most popular of the great Shakespearian tragedies, and the representation was in many respects a worthy one. To Mr. Cathcart was entrusted the leading i-61e, and with his thorough knowledge of stage business, his elocutionary powers, and his real ability, lie was able to give an ideal of the character which he delineated. In the balcony scene lie was animated ami impassioned, and exhibited an emotional power of high order, but it was in the closing scenes that lie was most effective, and in which he was most applauded. Miss Beaudet made a most loveable Juliet in the opening scenes, but as the realities of her trying positions crept on her she displayed an impassioned power and histrionic skill, together with emotional effect ot the highest order, and she succeeded in making the part a reality, which was fully recognised by the audience, Mr. Charles Hall made a. very excellent Friar Lawrence, playing with consummate effect, and it is scarcely necessary to say that Herr Bandmanu made a feature of the somewhat minor part of Mercntio. Miss Louise Crawford deserves a full tribute of praise for her impersonation as nurse. It ■was well and carefully sustained from first to last. Mr. Musgrave, as usual, presented a careful study as Japulet. The other parts were fairly sustained, and the performance gave full satisfaction to the audience. This evening "The Corsican Brothers " will be produced.
