DISASTROUS FIRE AT TAURANGA.
£30,000 WORTH OF PROPERTY DESTROYED. [CV TELEGKAPII. OW-V' COP.RESPOXDEXT.] Tauran-oa, Wednesday, 1.10 a.m. A most disastrous fire occurred here last night (May 31st). The loss is roughly estimated at £30,000. The most valuable portion of the town has been totally destroyed, including every building on both sides of Harrington-street. The fire originated in Mr. Lewis Lee's store, and was discovered shortly before S o'clock by the smell and smoke issuing from the building. On the d 0 0 ,." being burst open, the building burst into flames, which quickly spread to Mr. Menzie's hotel, and from there up Harrington-street. Mr. Wrigley's handsome new store and dwelling-house are destroyed. The fire is now (1.10 a.m., Wednesday) greatly subdued, but it has not yet been quite got under. The particulars of the insurances, &c, are not yet to hand, but it is supposed the property 'destroyed is not over one-third covered. Very few goods were saved. The fire spread too rapidly, and the heat was too intense "to allow of anyone approaching it. The fire got the mastery, and did as it liked.
