CRICKET.
« WAIKATO V. OTAHtJHTT. Tms match camo off at Otahuhu yesterday, and caused quite a sensation in that small community. The weather was fine, and there was an excellent wicket. The teams wero well matched in tho first innings, but when the Waikatos warmed to the work they seemed to play as they liked with the bowling of the Otahuhuites, and when the stumps were drawn had made 132 runs with only six wickets down. Our Waikato visitors have three other matches to play which are creating much excitement in cricketing circles—viz., West End Club to-day, Auckland Club to-morrow, and United Club on Saturday. No doubt there will be a large attendance on the ground to witness the sport. The town clubs have all their work cut out for it will bo seen from the scores underneath that there are several very heavy guns with the invading team. ■SVAIKAIO. FIRST INNINGS. SECOND INXIXGS. TUAKAT7 V. POKENO.
The return match between tho above clubs was played at Tuakau en Friday, April 8, in a paddeck kindly lent by Mr. S. Fergie. The day was all that could be desired. There was some rather free hitting which gave the fieldsmen some leather-hunting. The match was won by the Tuaknu team. There were a good many visitors on the ground. Everything passed off in a very agreeable manner, thanks to Messrs. Proud and Brown, who acted as umpires, and whoso impartial decisions gave general satisfaction.
