IBY TELEGRAM. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] ;■'.'. DuNedin, Friday. The report of the Otago Education Board for the year 18S0 has been issued. From it we learn that at the end of 1879 there were 145 schools in operation'in the Otago Educational District. ■' At the end of 1880 there were 152 schools, jiew establishments having been opened at .Dunedin (George-street), "Waikoukou, ■ Waihenio, Moonlight-street, Taieri.Tanarika, and Lindon. Of these 152 schools seven have from 15 to 20 pupils ; fourteen, ; 20 to 25 ; fifty-seven, 25 to 50; twenty, 50 tola; fourteen, 75 to 100j eleven,, 100, to 150; sixteen, 150 to 300; seven, 300 to 500; and six with 500 and upwards. The Board employs 430 teachers, "classified as follows: — ;142 head male teachers,''4l .male assistants, 54 male pupil teachers, 69 female head teachers, 2S female assistants, 77 female pupil teachers, and 19 teachers of ; sewing. This is an increase during the year of 9 schoolmasters, 15 schoolmistresses, 18 male pupil teachers, 10 female pupil teachers, and 3 teachers of sewing. During 1880, 6528 pupils attended the Dunedin schools an'd 19.63S at the other "schools. Only £6000 was allowed by the Education Board for school buildings out of current year's vote. The whole estimate of requirements were £43,372 4s 7d. During the year £5279 19a 2d was spent on school buildings. .■.'..
