At a meeting of the Italian residents in Sydney, held on Tuesday, for the purpose of expressing their appreciation at the kindness shown by the Government to tlie Italian immigrants who arrived by the India, it was decided to send a report of the meeting to the Italian Press and the Mayor of Rome, with a request to the latter that he would make known to the Italian people the generous offer of the New South Wales Government. A meeting was held at Burwood yesternight to express sympathy with Mr. Archer, the Mayor of the Borough, and family in connection with the recent proceedings against Mr. Archer for alleged misconduct as ReturningOificer at tlie last election of au alderman. At the Armidale assizes the only case of public interest was Preston and his wife, charged with causing tlie death of the orphan Emma Cross, 14 years of ase, living with them.
