FIRE in QUEEN-STREET.
At a quarter past three o'clock this morning the fire bells sounded the alarm. The scene of the conflagration was the block of buildings occupied by Mrs. Coster (milliner), Messrs. Whitehead (tobacconist), Co)e (basket-maker), Mason Bros, (hairdressers), T. Harris (tobacconist), and Patterson's store and stables. The flames got a considerable hold of the premises in which the fire broke out before the Brigade under Mr. Superintendent Hughes arrived on the scene. The hose was very quickly got into work and played on the premises. Great exertions were made by the brigade, but nothing could be done to save the premises mentioned, and efforts were immediately directed to the adjoining shops at one side, and the Savings Bank at the other. A body of police assembled ou the spot, under tlie direction of Sub-Inspector Pardy. Taking place as the fire did just as we were going to press, we had no time to ascertaiu particulars, insurances, &c., and can only chronicle the bare facts. We understand that the fire broke out in a shed at the rear of Whitehead's Bowling Saloon.
