THE ANNE MILBANK.
It will be seen from the telegrams from our correspondent given underneath, that the p.s. Anne Milbank struck on a rock at Parua Bay, and is likely to become a wreck. It is said that the steamer's back is broken, and thit the water is washing through her. The Anne Milbank was originally the Lady Bowen, and ran to the Thames for several years. In 1575 she was remodelled and enlarged, and the name changed. Her tonnage is gross 63, net 44 tons, and the engines 24 horse-power. She is the property of Captain J. Casey, but was chartered by the Union S.S. Company to tender the larger boats, which do not proceed up the Whaugarei river further than Limestone Island. The Anne Milbank traded to Waipu, Mangapai, Mangawai, Parua Bay ; in fact, wherever necessary in the neighbourhood of the Heads to collect cargo or convey passengers. She was commanded by Captain W. Aubrey, who, in knowledge of the various inlets and streams in that locality, is reputed not to be excelled by any. The Anne Milbank sured in the Sonth British Office for £1500, which company has reinsured as follows : — National, £250 ; Victoria, £250 ; New Zealand, £500. Captain Worsp proceeded by the s.s. Wellington yesterday afternoon to Whangarei Heads, to see what steps would be advisable to take under the circumstances. Whangarei Heads, Wednesday. The p.s. Anne Milbank grounded on a rock in Parua Bay on Monday last. .It went through her bottom. Her cargo for Mangawai and Waipu is damaged. Later. —The Anne Milbank struck the rock amidship at high water. She is broken in two, and will become a total wreck.
