ONEHUNGA BOROUGH.
» The ordinary meeting of Council was held on Monday evening. Present : The Mayor (Mr. Blakey), Messrs. Broadfoot, Codlin, Earle, Hartnett, Hastie, Jackson, and Kelsall. — Minutes and correspondence were read. Persoaal.—Mr. Broadfoot made a full and ample apology for having been led into the expression of his feelings by too strong language at a previous meeting.—The Mayor accepted the apology. Contractors' Dispute. — A document, signed by about 150 burgesses, expressing approval of the action of the Council in granting arbitration, was received, Mr. J. Boylan having been named by the contractor to act as arbitrator with Mr. Baber.— The appointment was approved. Waterworks.—The report for the month of March showed that 38 vessels had been supplied with 36,800 gallons of water, yielding £18 Bs. Main Road.—ln reply to an application to the Government for a portion of the tolls received at the Newmarket gate, a letter from the Hon. Attorney-General, requesting an interview with some of the members of the Council on the subject, wa3 read.—A deputation was appointed to confer. Rates- —An application from Mr. Yates fer a reduction in his rates on account of some unoccupied tenements was referred to the Finance Committee. Road Metal.—The contractor for broken metal was ordered, under the conditions of hia contract, to extend the quantity from 300 to 500 yards. Accounts. —Several accounts were passed. —[Own Correspondent, April 12.]
