Wellington steamed •for Tauranga at 5 p.m. yesterday. The s.s. lona left for Russell and Northern ports at 5 o'clock yesterday afternoon. The s.s. Fingal is announced to leave for Mercury Bay at noon to-day. The ketch Pearl was loading at Rarotonga, it was thought for Auckland, when the Waiwera left. Tho schooner Ovalau, already laden, was expected to call at Rarotonga on her war to Auckland, about ten days after the Waiwera left. The s.s. Glenelg is announced to proceed to Tauranga at 5 o'clock this afternoon. Tho schooner Waiwera arrived from Rarotonga yesterday. Captain Bushell reports :— Left Rarotonga on the 26th. Experienced light N.E. wind for eight days, then three days N. W., followed by S.E. and E. winds which lasted till arrival. Tha brigantino Borealis sailed from Rarotonga for a New Zealand port, perhaps Auckland, probably Wellington, about 24 hours before the Waiwera left. . The schooner Transit left Rarotonga for an island cruise, shortly before the Waiwera arrived. The schconer Agnes Donald was lying at Rarotonga when the Waiwera left. The Union S.S. Co.'s a.s. Albion arrived from Southern ports at 1.30 a:m. to-day. We are indebted to Mr. D. The fittings of the late s.s. Ranqratira will be sold by Mr. G. W. Binney at 11 o'clock to-day. The Union Co.'s s.s. Hero arrived yesterday from Sydney at 2 p.m. We are indebted to Mr. Taylor, purser, for latest files and the following report:—Laft Melbourne at 2.30 p.m. on the 2nd, clearing Port Philip Heads at 6.15 p.m.; experienced Btrong N. winds; reached Sydney at 11.30 p.m. on the 4th ; sailing again at 5.30 p.m. on tha sth; experienced light N.W. winds till Thursday, the 7th; thence strong head winds and heavy head sea ; made tho Three Kings at noon on the 10th; was abreast of Cape Brett at 2 a.m. on the 11th; arriving as above. The Hero is announced to leave for Melbourno and Newcastle, via Hokitika, at 4 p.m. to-day. The Wellington Evening Post of the 6th inst. says :—" The late Mr. William Hendle, the lighthouse keeper at Cape Campbell, had been 26 years in the colony, of which ho had spent about 20 in the service of the Government, ol whom he appears to have been a faithful and zealous servant. He was for some years keeper of the Karori Asylum, and subsequently joined the lighthouse service, in which he had been engaged for 16 years—first at Pencarrow and Mana, and subsequently, for the la3t three years, at Cape Campbell. He emphatically died at his post. He hurried up the stairs for the purpose of lighting his lamps, and on reaching the top, sank down and died almost immediately from heart disease."
