THE HIKURANGI MEETING.
A WELL-rOTOBMKD correspondent writes from Alexandra as follows " The great Hikurangi meeting, as it is called, will not eventuate until tho 26th or 28th inst., as not until then will [some of the expected notabilities be present. Your leader on the subject was fully appreciated here. There appears to ba a general, misapprehension regarding the meeting, viz., that Tawhiao is anxious for Europeans to be present, as has been stated by various newspaper correspondents. I have spoken to nearly all of the King's intimates on the subject, who deny anything of the kind. They say, 'If Tawhiao desired the presence of Europeans he would have invited the Governor or tho Native Minister, ' and that not having done so, they could not see what other Europeans could do there, as they would have nothing to say at the meeting."
