Tho schooner Cleopatra arrived from Lyttelton yesterday. The master reports :—Left Lyttelton oa the 2nd inst.; met with light S.W. winds to the Kaikouras, when a heavy gale set in, and lasted 12 hours ; thence moderate S. W. and South wind to the East Cape, when light East and S.E until arrival. The schooner Minnie Hare svrri7ed from Gisborno and East Coast settlements, on Saturday night. The master reports : —Left Gisborne on Match 29; ran round to Opotiki, landed passengers, and went back to Open Bay; commenced loading pigß and .other cargo ; left again nest day, the 6th, for Awanui, where I filled up with grass seed ; sailed on Thursday n:ght for Auckland, and arrived at 10 p.m. on the 9th. The schooner Kate McGregor arrived from Timaru yesterday afternoon. She left there on Match 31, and had light W. winds to Banks' Peninsula; thence' to the' Kaikouras N.E. Afterwards a strong N. gale was encountered, reaching to Cape Palliser; thence to White Island S. and S.W. winds prevailed ; from there to port, E. and N.E. breezes prevailed. The s.b. Glenelg arrived from Tauranga on Saturday, with 25 sacks gum, 2 bales wool, 1 horse, and 6 tons sundries. She left again for Russell a' few hours after arrival. The Glenelg is expected back this morning, and is announced to return to Tauranga at 5 o'clock to-morrow afternoon. The a.s. lona arrived from Russell and Northern ports on Saturday morning, with 132 sacks gum, 30 sacks oysters-9 cases fruit, 1 case fish, 2 cases sundries, 8 cases hides, and 2 sheepskins. She is announced to return thither at 5 o'clock this afternoon. The schooner Sybil arrived from an Island cruise oh Saturday night. Captain Sinclair reports :—"Sailed from Auokland January 10th, 1881, wind E.3.E., fresh breeze ; samo night, when 25 miles to N.E. of Little Barrier, freshened to a strong gale, heavy ground swell, and high topping sea; lost jibboom and outer jib, also brace on bowsprit broke off to pieces, and fore-topmast backstays carried away ; gale moderating on the 12th, but remained between N.E. and S.E. the whole passage to Tahiti, which was made on February sth ;• cruised through Society Group, and from thence to the Pearl Islands arid others to the N.W. Left Savage Island on April. 2nd, light airs and calms; on tho 4th, wind freshening from S.E., and continued so until this morning at 5.30 a.m., when the Great Barrior was sighted ; from thecco light winds into port. Brought up Auckland harbour at 9.30 p.m." The cargo consists of limejuico, pearl shell, copra, sponge, bananas, oranges, and vanilla. The sohooner Mazeppa left Penrhyn Island on March 20th, bound for the Harvey Group. She expected to leave Rarotonga on Ist Slay, for Auckland. The barquo Sydenham is expected to sail for Lyttelton to-day. The schooner Columbia, arrived on Saturday afternoon from Lyttelton. The master reports : Left Lyttelton on Saturday the 26th ult. at 2 a.m. with a southerly breeze, which lasted for 24 hours, thence to Cape Turnagain northwesterly and westerly winds, and up to arrival light southerly breeze. Mr. Henry Niccol lias launched a cutter of 19 tons from his yard at the North Shore. ' She is named the Dolphin, and is intended for trading on the coast. Her first trip will probably be to the Thames, under command of Captain ' Youland. The s.s. Fipgal arrived from Mercury Bay yesterday ,_ with a cargo of kauri gum. The Union S.S. Co.'s s.s Wellington arrived from Whangarei at 10 p.m. on Saturday, with about 15 passengers. She is announced to proceed to Tauranga at a o'clock this afternoon. The brig Emperor is now loading at Lyttelton for this port. The agent, Mr. Lodder, announces that he is prepared to make advantageous torms with shippers.
