[revter's telegrams.] THE IRISH LAND BILL. London, April 7. In the House of Commons to-day, the bill introduced by the Government for the amendment of the Irish land laws, ■was laid on the table, and read a first The measure provides for the creation of Courts of Law to fix rents, which shall thereafter remain unaltered for a period of 15 years. The Courts will also undertake the regulation of land tenure and land sales. A Commission will be appointed to make grants to facilitate emigration, to assist tenants to purchase their holdings, and to buy land from the landholders who are willing to sell. It will he optional with landlords and tenants to invoke the aid of the Courts. It is intended that the Act shall be partly retrospective. AN" IRISH DISTURB AMCE. | Londojt, April 6. A serious disturbance occurred at Ballinamone, Ireland, to-day between the police and the people. The latter were fired upon by the police, and a girl who was in the crowd was shot dead, and several of the rioters were severely, wounded. THE DETACHED SQUADRON. Londox,,April 6. A detached squadron, consisting of Her Majesty's ships Inconstant, Baccante (with which are Princes Albert Victor and George of Wales), Touramaline, Carysfort, and Cleopatra, under the command of Admiral Earl Clanwilliam, which was ordered from its cruise in January last to Natal, for the purpose of landing the Naval Brigade for service in the Transvaal, has now received orders to proceed from the Cape to Melbourne. It has not transpired whether the other Australian ports will be visited by the squadron.
LORD BEACONSFIELD'S HEALTH. London, April 7. A bulletin issued this morning reports that Earl Beaconsfield has suffered a serious relapse , during the night, and is now again in a very critical state. Sir William Jenner, one of the physicians in ordinary to the Queen, consequently was summoned to confer with the other medical attendants of His Lordship. THE TUNISIAN' DISPUTE. Rome, April 6. Signor Cairoli, President of the Council of Ministers, made a statement to-day in the ' Chamber of Deputies in regard to the state of affairs in Tunis. In the course of his speech he stated that the English and Italian Governments had arrived at a complete agreement as to the course they would pursue in regard to the Tunisian question. LONDON MARKETS. London, April 7. The total reserve in notes and bullion in the Bank of England is £15,400,000. There is an active demand for most descriptions of Australian hides. Prices are one-eighth of a penny higher. COLONIAL NEWS. ' HAWKESBURY STARTERS. Sydney, April 8. A MELBOURNE ELECTION. Melbourne, April 8. The election of a member for North Melbourne in the Legislative Assembly, in the room of the late Mr. Story, took place to-day, and resulted in the return of Mr. Munro. ARRIVAL OF LAYCOCK. Sydney, April 8. Elias Laycock, oarsman, arrived here to-day, per Lusitania, from England. He was accorded a warm reception. There were great crowds meeting liim. DeRAY'S IMMIGRANTS. Sydney, April 8. Two hundred of the Marquis Deßay's New Ireland immigrants arrived here from New Caledonia to-day. SYDNEY MARKETS. Sydney, April S. New Zealand wheat is quoted today at 4s 2d per bushel; maize, 3s per GOlbs.; candles, D.R.J.'s, S-|-cl per lb.; ditto, D.R.P.'s, Sid. ADELAIDE MARKETS. Adelaide, April S.
