CRICKET GROUNDS.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—What is the matter with the Domain cricket ground that some persons are so anxious to monopolise the Albert Park reserve (after all the expense incurred in laying out the former) for their own particular desires? The 15 acres reserved' is not, as some would like to make others believe, all in one piece, but divided into two or three pieces—about five acres adjoining Bowenstreet and another portion'at the back of the residences in Princes-street and in rear of frontage's in Wellesley-street on the north side—so that if five acres are taken for a cricket ground there will not be much left for public gardens. The lessees of property in the neighbourhood naturally enough desire to have laid out such a park as will not tend to deteriorate the neighbourhood." Now, if the place is to be almost solely for cricket, football, and racing or foot matches it must necessarily result in so doing. If there were no such place in the city, there would be reason in the demand, but ,as it is there is no real necessity for another such ground, unless our young athletes do want- the ground brought to their'windows ; because even then, it must be borne in<mind, that if it suits the views of those residing in town, it will, of course, not please those residing in the suburbs. After a careful inspection of the ground, I think it will be seen that there is really not sufficient ground for cricket matches, and if a ground is reserved it will only result in spoiling the ground for both purposes.—l am, &c, • "Est Modus in Rebus."
