TO CORRESPONDENTS.
E. Seccombe, Alexandra, writes : —Seeing an article in the New Zealand Herald, that, in the South, someone had discovered an effective poison for destroying rabbits, I will bo greatly obliged if you will mention where the poison can be obtained, being greatly troubled by these animals also. They are destroying all my winter crops of turnips, mangolds, and carrots. The poison which has been so effectual in destroying rabbits in South Australia and in the southern portions of New Zealand is pliosphorized grain. Some chemist in your district will no doubt prepare the grain for tho purpose, if you desire him. It is probable, however, that while there is an abundance of good turnips, mangolds, carrots, &c., available, bunny may not be inclined to pick up tho poisoned grain distributed about their runs. Slab, Auckland, writes Can you please inform me how long the mail steamer stops in Port Jackson ? The steamer that brings the incoming mail remains at Sydney about six weeks before starting with the outward mail, so that there is always ono of the fleet at tho Sydney end of the line. On'ehunoa writes Would you kindly inform me, through the .medium of your valuable paper,, which sailing vessel has made the fastest passage on record from Sydney to Auckland, and the time it was done in ? The barque Alice Cameron, in five days four hours. The Kate did the trip in five days ten hours ; the Novelty, in five and a-lialf days ; the Bredalbane and Gazelle, in about six days. Tho brig Moa is also said to have made the run from Sydney in five days »ix hours. The Alice Cameron, on one occasion, made the round trip, including loading, in twenty days.
