He announced that Williamson's solicitors had intimated their intention to obtain an injunction from the Supreme Court to restrain him. The right has been given by Williamson's solicitors for the performance in this colony to Mr.Simonsen. It is understood that the Government has determined to appoint a commissioner to investigate the complaints made in regard to the management of Mount View Asylum and the conduct of its officers. The Gazette contains a declaration thai sparrows and linnets inay be killed throughout the colony. CHRISTCHURCH, Friday. A prisoner named Clarkson, doing ten yean in Lytteltou gaol for highway robbery having been crippled for life by a fall o earth, has been pardoned and released, aftei being in gaol 15 months. Tenders have been accepted for additiona buildings at the agricultural school, to the amount of nearly £SOOO. Great preparations are being made for th< grain season. The New Zealand Shipping Company announce a fleet of eighteen iroi vessel of a tonnage of 30,000. Messrs. Royse, Stead, and Co. also pub lish a list of nine ships, to sail for the Unite; Kingdom orContinent as desired; and Messrs Shaw, Saville, and Co. have five vessels These altogether give 15,000 tons more. A house and shed, the property of Mr. E R, Deacon, was destroyed by fire this mora ing. The cause is unknown. DUNEDIN, Friday. Eight declarations of insolvency have beei filed during the week. The half-yearly meeting of the Chamber o Commerce was held to-day. Mr. W. J Larnaeli, in his opening speech, referred ti the growing prosperity and return of confi denee in business, and advocated the repea of the property tax and the re-imposition o the tea and sugar duties and school fees. H< also referred to the necessity of seekinj other outlets for produce. At the annual meeting of the shareholder of the Morning Herald to-day the balanci showed a loss of £827 13s 3d on the year'; transactions. The revenue being £9651 10 3d ; expenditure, £9979 3s 6d. The oowling match between the Christ church and Fernhill Clubs took place to-day Dunedin won by 27 points.
