MONUMENT TO THE PRINCESS ALICE.
The following is the full inscription which has just been placed by the Queen on the memorial executed by Mr. J. E. Boehm, A.R.A., in remembrance of her late Royal Highness the Princess Alice in the Royal mausoleum, Frogmore. In gold letters on the central panel are the words, "To the memory of my much-beloved and lamented daughter, Alice Grand Duchess of Hesse, who survived but a few days the feverstricken child beside whom she watched, not counting her life dear to herself and on the opposite side, facing the window, are the words, "Who died at Darmstadt on the 14th December, the same date on which, in IS6I, the Prince Consort died at "Windsor. In their deaths they are not divided." The monogram on the side with a royal crown is A. M. M. (Alice Maud Mary), born 25th April, 1543 ; died 14th December, IS7S. The monogram ou the back, facing-the chapel above her infant daughter, is a large M. (Mary), with the Royal crown of Hesse, and the words underneath, " Born 24th May, 1574 ; died. 16th November, 1878." On the front are the panels with the Royal arms of England, .and on the opposite side are two panels with the arms of Hesse. The memorial is composed of black marble, dove-white statuary, Sienna and Sicilian marble. The reenmbent group is of white statuary marble.
