AUCKLAND REGATTA CLUB.

ANNUAL MEETING,

The annual meeting of the Regatta Club was held at the Waitemata Hotel yesterday evening, Captain D.H. McKenziebeing Chairman. The balanoe-sheet read by the treasurer showed that a balance of £121 lCs 3d had been left on hand last year, and the subscriptions since then had been £444 lls 6d. The entries, £112 ss, cards £10, and tickets, flagship, brought the total of the credit side to £614 2s 9d. The prize money paid amounted to £459 lls. The other items of expenditure were :—Advertising, £39 4s ; boat-hire, £18 Is ; band, £13. Various expenses, £37 9s 6d. Total expenditure, £597 2s 9d, leaving a balance to credit of £16 17s 3d. The balance-sheet was adopted. The election of officers for the ensuing year was then proceeded with, the result being,—patron, His Worship the Mayor; vice-patron, the Chairman of the Harbour Board; president, Mr. C. H. Street; vice-president, Captain H. F. Anderson; treasurer, Mr. Thomas Henderson, jun. ; auditors, Messrs. W. Buchanan and James Dacre. Committee : Captains John McKenzie and A. Farquhar, Messrs; R. E. Isaacs, H. J. Ellis, C. J. Hutchinson, L. Coupland, F. H. Lewisson, John Marshall, David Gouk, Charles Dacre, Malcolm Niscol, and C. B. Stone.—Mr. Ellis said it must be admitted that the boat race 3 at the regatta were, broadly speaking; a failure. This was owing to the boats being unsuitable for the harbour, as they could not rely on having smooth water, and he was of opinion that gunwale gigs were quite high class enough for the place, and would move that all outrigger races be omitted from the programme. —Mr. D. Oxley controverted Mr. Ellis' views. He thought that we must keep pace with the age, aud outriggers were now the fashion. The races could be pulled off in the Tamaki, or some other place where there is smooth water.—The Chairman said there was plenty of time to consider this matter, and it might be sefely left with the committee.—Mr. Ellis, being satisfied with having ventilated the subject, withdrew his motion.—This concluded the business of the meeting.
