Co.'s s.s. Arawata arrived from Melbourne and Southern ports shortly before noon yesterday. We are indebted to the purser, Mr. J. H. Laing, for latest files and the following report :—Left Melbourne on the 26th January; left Bluff on 31st; sailed from Port Chalmers at 3.30 p.m. on the 2nd inst., aud arrived at Lyttelton on the 3rd; sailed for Wellington as 5.30 p.m., arriving at 10.30 next morning:; sailed again at 6.15 p.m., arriving at Napier at 12.30 next day ; left Napier at 5.30 on -- the sth, and arrived at Gisborne at 5 a.m. on the 6th ; sailed again at 10 a.m., rounded East Cape at 4.30 p.m., and arrived at Queen-street Wharf at 11.30 a.m. on the 7th. Had very fine weather nil the way up the coast. The Arawata is announced, to leave for Sydney, via ' 2lussell, at 4 p.m. to-day. The schooner Caledonia, is announced to sail for Tonga and Samoa on Saturday next. The barque Glimpse has arrived at Melbourne from Puget Sound, doing the trip from here in a little over five months. The Union S.S. Co.'s s.s. Waitaki steamed for Tauranga about 5 o'clock yesterday afternoon. The s.s. lona left for Russell and Northern ports at 5.30 p.m. yesterday. The Missionary barque Southern Cross is being furnished with u compound surface condensing engine, of about 15 horse-power, mami factnied by Maudsley, Sons and Field, of London; also a round vertical boiler, fitted with Field's patent tubes. Besides these additions, the vessel is receiving a thorough overhaul. It is expected she will be ready for sea in a fortnight or three weeka.

The brigantine George Thornton arrived from Westport with a cargo of coal on Sunday afternoon. She left on Thursday at noon, and experienced fine weather with westerly wind all the. way. Her cargo of coal will be transhipped, a portion of it into the Penguin, now in port, and tire balance into the Hawea on her arrival. The s.s. L»Ha Rookh steamed for Waitara at 1.15 p.m. yesterday. . The schooner Atlantic proceeded to Awitu yesterday in charge of Captain McKenzie. She will there load with timber for the South. I The s.s. Wallabiarrived from Wanganui with a cargo of sheep at 12 o'clock on Sunday. She left for the same port at 3 o'clock yesterday evening. The chief officer of the Government steamer Hinemon, Mr. Bayldon, did not go with her, as he was informed the vessel would be laid up on her arrival at Wellington. The s.s. Rowena is announced to leave for Waitara to-morrow.
