SATURDAY'S CRICKET MATCHES.

AUCKLAND C.C. V. UNITED C.C. The return match between these clubs commenced last Saturday, Auckland taking the wickets against the bowling of Buckland ■ and Lankham jun. The innings closed for 102, Colbeck contributing 46 in good style. His score contained three fours, two fives, two threes, seven twos, and only four singles! Buckland especially he showed a decided partiality for. Earl helped to swell the score with 21, including a four and two threes, and A. Real with 15. Buckland bowled 85 balls for 53 runs and 4 wickets; Lankham, jun., So balls for 43 runs and 5 wickets. It will thus be seen that both bowlers got punished severely. The United commenced their innings with Testro and McCorinack, but the latter was soon bowled for the detested "duck." Mumford filled his place, and he and Testro kept their wickets up, though not without elianceS, till time was called. Mumford played a hard-hitting innings for 33, and Testro a very steady one for 2u. The longstopping on both sides was excellent, there being only two byes in 161 runs ; also the fielding of Cheeseman at point, Bendall at cover, and Stewart at third man. Roach might bestir himself a little more in the field, and nearly all require to pay attention to their return to the wicket-keeper. Altogether, this was the best match we have seen this year. It will be continued next Saturday. The following is the full score :—

WEST END I". OTAHUHU.

The second match this season between the above clubs was played on Saturday in the Domain, and as there was not cime to finish the innings it was decided to continue it on Saturday, the 12th inst. Tlie leather was trundled by Lynch and Arncil with tellin" effect for the West End, the former getting C wickets for 13 runs, and bowling 11 maidens out of 19 overs. The latter got 4 wickets for 31, bowling 7 maidens out of 20 overs. For the West End, Lynch (20) not out and Butler (11) not out showed good form, and for Otahuhu N. Porch 16 and C. Bowden 14 (not out), showed careful defensive play. A word should be said about the state of tlie pitch upon which the match was played. It was wretched.in the extreme being dangerous to life and limb. There have been numerous complaints about the state of the ground this season, but it has been productive of no good. Cricketers naturally expect that a large part of the revenue accruing from the ground will be expended upon it. OTAIIT7HI7. WEST EXD. W. Porch, b Arneil .. 5 Isaac, bF.
