Lv reply to tlie representations made by the Ambassadors of the Powers, , the Porte has declined to state beforehand the maximum concessions which Turkey is prepared to make to Greece in Epirus and Thessaly, but is willing to negotiate in regard to the demands put forward by Greece. MR. CARLYLE DYING. London, February 3. Mr. Thos. Carlyle, the well-known author, is now alarmingly ill. His physicians hold out no hope of his recovery. CRUSHING THE OBSTRUCTORS. London, February 2, evening. In the House of Commons, this afternoon Mr. Gladstone gave notice that he would propose "That a majority of three-fourths of the House, on the motion of ' urgency, , should suffice to give the Speaker supreme coutrel over the Chamber, and give him immediate power to suppress disorder." Mr. Gladstone's proposal is made in view of the disgraceful scenes which occurred last night in the House during the debate on the Irish Coercion Bill. THE HOMEWARD MAIL. London, February 2. The Homeward Australian mail via Brindisi was delivered here to-day.
LONDON MARKETS. London, February 2. Consols are 99J-. New Zealand Securities are' unchanged. Australian and New Zealand wheat remain at the last quotations, viz.:— Adelaide, ex warehouse, 50s; New Zealand, ex ship, 445; Adelaide flour, ex warehouse, 345. Australian beef tallow is 35s 6dj best mutton, 3Ss. The stock of tallow in London on Wednesday was 13,200 casks. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company have received the following report:— London, February 1. Wool.—Market unchanged. Up to date 173,000 bales have arrived. Trade in the manufacturing districts is unchanged. Wheat.—Market flat. Adelaide is worth 50s; "Victorian, 49s Gd; and New Zealand, 47s per 4961b5. Tallow.—Market firm. Mutton is worth 375, and beef 34s 6d per cwt. Leather.—Market quiet. .Best sides, 11 Ad.
