WARKWORTH POLICE COURT.
Thursday, January 27. [Before Dr. Cruickshank and Mr. Angove, J.Ps.] Larrikinism.—George Whitethread, aged 14, and Herbert Warin, aged 11, were charged by J. B. Jordan, J. P., with unlawfully, wilfully, and maliciously throwing stones on a certain building—to wit, a shed, the property of the said J. B. Jordan, of Warkworth, on Monday, the 24th instant. The defendants appeared in answer to a summons, and pleaded "notguilty." Mr. Jordan prosecuted. Jackson Palmer was examined. Thomas Bell gave corroborative evidence. The defendants stated they were in Mr. Warin's garden (father of one of the defendants). They threw a few hard peaches at a mark (a pine tree). Air. Jordan's shed being part of their boundary, some dropped on the roof. Judgment deferred till the other informations were heard. Jas. Burt Jordan, jun., was charge by Air. George Warin with unlawfully and maliciously assaulting Richard Warin a,nd George U'hitethread at Warkworth, on the 19th instant, by pelting them with stones. Defendants admitted throwing stones, but not at those mentioned in the charge. The evidence having been, taken, judgment was deferred in this case also. Richard Warin, 15 years, was charged by J. B. Jordan with unlawfully and maliciously assaulting James Burt Jordan (informant's son) on the 19th January, ISBI, at Warkworth, by throwing stones at him, following him on to Palmer's land, and then and there knocking him down and striking him. Defendant pleaded not guilty. Two witnesses were examined. The Court after consideration called up George Whitethread and Herbert Wai - in for sentence, and after being admonished defendants were discharged on payment of costs, 4s 6d each. Both defendant being at the time penniless, were questioned as to how they could raise the amount. Warin was soon relieved of his anxiety, his father coining forward, but Whitethread had no relative to come to his relief. The Rev. R. McKinney, who was present in Court, at once paid the costs, ai?d apparently several others were prepared to do so too. The others were dismissed, each to pay their own costs. —[Own Correspondent.]
