WAIKATO DISTRICT NEWS.
[FKOM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENTS. 1 Hamilton Thursday. There was a fair attendance last night at St. Peter's, on the occasion of the recital of sacred music. The choir acquitted itself very creditably. Of course the chef-d'auvres of the evening were the tenor solo by Mr. C. Laishley and the contralto solo by Mrs. Mofflin. The other pieces were very fairly rendered, and great credit is due to Mr. T. A. Bell for his able management. Alexandra, Thursday. At the monthly meeting of the Paterangi Highway Board the tender of Mr. McCallum —7s 6d per chain —for ploughing and levelling a portion of the Paterangi Road was accepted. It was resolved to call for tenders for laying sand on the Alexandra and Te Awamutu Road. The tenders for draining at Te Rore were held over. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENTS.] Cambridge, Thursday evening. At the sitting of the Commissioners Court, yesterday, the Natikauata brought forward their evidence in favour of their claim. The only witness who brought forward any proof of possession, was a native who deposed to being born on the land in 1832, but removed when an infant. As the claimants were not in possession since 1535, the case is considered hopeless. The evidence on the other side is going on to-day. The Court will probably rise to-morrow. Hamilton, Thursday evening. The Property Tax Review Court was held with closed doors. Not one in five of the objections were approved. About twenty cases were heard, with varying results.
