AUCKLAND GRAMMAR SCHOOL BOARD OF GOVERNORS.
The Board of Governors of the Auckland College aud Grammar School met yesterday forenoon. Present: Colonel Haultain (in the chair), His Worship the Mayor, Rev C M. Tselson, and Mr. Hesketh. Dr. PrRCHAs s Charges.—The committee s report was read as follows : —"The opinion of the committee is that a copy of the charges of Dr. Purchas against the masters of the Grammar School, and the papers connected therewith, be sent to the Minister of Education, and that he be respectfully requested to cause an inquiry to be made into them, as the Board of Governors deem it inexpedient that such an inquiry s ould be made by themselves, or other persons locally resident. "—On the motion of ~ r - Hesketh, the consideration of the report was deferred to Friday next. E j ING Classes.—The committee appointed to report on this subject made the following deliverance " That the evening classes be continued, and that the Rev. D. . Runciman be allowed the use of one of i>he class-rooms at the Grammar School, for the purpose mentioned in his letter." The recommendations, contained in the report be agreed to. Boardixg School Site.—Letter read from Mr. Joseph Newman, offering to sell or lease land at Green Lane Station, Ellerslie, as a building site for the proposed Grammar School boarding establishment. — The letter was referred to the committee appointed to examine building sites. New North Road Allotments. —The Secretary reported that he had taken the opinion of the Board's solicitors on the legality of leasing these allotments for 21 or 66 years. They were of opinion that the Board could only lease under the Act for 21 years.—lt was resolved that the allotments in question be advertised for lease by auction. Grammar School Prizes.—lt was resolved that the distribution of prizes and certificates at the Grammar School shall take place in that institution on Tuesday, the loth instant, at 2 p.m. Grammar-school Reserve.—The Mayor brought up the report of the committee appointed to examine the ground asked for by the City Council. The report recommended that the land in question be leased to the City Council for 33 years at a peppercorn rental This concluded the business.
