MR. SHANKS BEFORE HIS CONSTITUENTS.

[BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.]

Invercargill, Wednesday. Me. Shanks, member for Mataura, addressed a meeting of the suburban electors in the Theatre Royal, Invercargill, this evening. Between 400 and 500 persons were present. Mr. Shanks, who was evidently not in form, spoke very briefly and disconnectedly, and said nothing o£ great interest. At the conclusion of the address a resolution was passed by a large majority requesting him to resign. Mr. Shanks in reply declined to accede to this request, believing that he possessed the confidence of the majority of the electors. The meeting was of no political significance.
