EVER STRONGER ON THE STRONGEST SIDE.

TO THE EDITOR.

Sir, —"Paterfamilias," on the Domain and tilings in general, is right, no doubt, in a worldly sense. From this or from that, it is abomination. Away with them all! They smell in the nostrils of a comfortable pater ! While agreeing that a mistake has been made in the management or mismanagement of the Domain, I still think there are two sides to every story, and I do not believe in snubbing a man simply because he is not one of our great "little" men. Pleas for poor people are doubtless a nuisance. Even the poor savage Joe annoys your even-tempered correspondent, and the circus, an amusement greatly patronised by the. poorest in the community, to speak vulgarly, raises his bile, while the fencing off and granting the sole right for years, to use part of. the public Domain to a few wealthy gentlemen at the same place, is, of course, a different tiling altogether, and quite allowable ? Verily, to be poor is, indeed, a crime.—l am, &c, Asti-Hdm.

"J.R.L." writes a letter respecting the Matakohe bridge, of which we can only give a portion :—'' In your last week's issue 'Own Correspondent,' writing from this district, throws out *j\ hint about the new causeway approach to the Matakohe cart bridge requiring l-epairs. Over and over again have 1, as secretary to the District Board, called attention to that portion of the work during its construction, to rectify what was originallly a mistake and will cost over two years of our rates. This to us is a great injustice. I imderstand the County Council are about to call for tenders for the covering of our other causeway -with limestone, if such is a fact they -W7.il be following the old adge of ,a stitch in time saves nine.'
