New Zealand Hkrald Oitice. Wednesday evening. Ths Customs duties collected to-day were £15(5110s lOd. Messrs. B. Tonks and Co.'a trade sale of boots, ladies' costumes, hats, &c., passed off very satisfactorily. All the lots offered were sold at fair prices. At Mr. "\V. Dowden's sale a considerable quantity of produce was disposed of in small lots* Fotatoea fetched from £1 10s to £2 per ton. SYDNEY. The Sydney Morning Herald, of the 2Sth ult., reports : — The number of sales reported in the Stock and Sharemarket to-day was larger than it has been for some time past. Bank stock had a full share of the investments, and prices were tirm. BreadstutTs have an improving tendency, and there is an increasing sale of flour, in consequence of country stocks running out; prices are tirm at up to £12. For wheat there is not much inquiry, and very little on hand. Dried fruits are advancing steadily; some holders of currants ask Old, and even GUI, for small lots of prime quality Groceries and oilmen's stores are being made at the quotations given this morning. Sugars are improving, private sales of Port Mackay counters at £20 to £30. t Messrs. Fraser and Co.'s auction sale, a quantity of colonial and Queensland grown changed hands at values showing a stronger market: £20 10s to €30 was realised, and some lines of sundries disposed of at full rates. Maize is worth from 2s Id to 2s 2d. Onions are in rapid domand, and are now quoted up to £20 per ton. a large line at auction yesterday realised £1G f»s.
