HOKIANGA COUNTY COUNCIL.
The monthly meeting of this Council was held in the Court-house, Herd's Point, on Monday, 13th September, 1880, at 7 p.m. There were present, Messrs. Bates (chairman), Bryers, McFarlane, Moetara, Whareran, and Yarborough. The minutes of the prerions meeting were read and confirmed. A quantity .of correspondence was read and received. •Moved by Mr. Yarborougb, "That the letter from P. Gnthrie and others, re the opening of certain blocks of land under the Homestead system, be forwarded to the Waste Lands Board at Auckland, with a strong recommendation that the request of the writers be acceded to."—Seeonded by Mr. Bates, and carried. Moved by Mr. Bates, " That a sum of ten pounds be voted by this Council to Mr. liuhdon, for expenses incurred while transacting county business in Auckland."— Seconded by Mr. Moetara, and carried. Ordered:—"That Mr. K. Harris , letter respecting certain land to be opened under the Homestead system be referred to the Crown Lands Board at Auckland. Ordered :—"That the letter from Mr. W. W. Dixon, drawing the attention of the Council to the dangerous state of the roa3 leading to his residence at Herd's Point, be referred to the Inspector of Works." Ordered : " That the clerk do write to the Chief Engineer, at Auckland, requesting him to obtain as soon as possible from Mr. H. Krippner, surveyor, the plans of the Herd's Point-Taheke road, and to retain in hand any money which may be due on account of such survey until the plans shall have been duly delivered." Ordered: "That the Inspector of Works be instructed to call for fresh tenders for the Papuwai Bridge without delay." Ordered:" That the letter from Mum PaeDga be acknowledged, and that he be informed that the Council is not disposed to expend money upon lands which hs-ve been neither surveyed nor dedicated for road purposes." Ordered: "That Mohi Wikitahi be informed that he had better forward his application for relief for certain indigent natives to the Government." Mr. E. Cochrane's report on the HorekeOkaihau road was read by the Clerk.— Moved by Mr. Yarborough, "That Mr. Clarke, surveyor, be appointed to alter the line of road as recommended by Mr. Cochrane."—Seconded by Mr. McFarlane, and carried. Ordered:" That Mr. Abbott be granted permission to erect two gates on the said road." Moved by Mr. McFarlane, "That the Inspector of Works be instructed to divide the Horeke-Okaihau-road, as surveyed by Mr. Newmann, into sections, and call for tenders for forming the same ; tenders to be called fur in sections, and the whole tenderers to deposit a sum of five per cent, on the amount of their tenders. Tenders to be sent in not later than noon on the 11th day of October, 1880."—Seconded by Mr. Bryers, i and carried. • : : The report of the Inspector of Works was read by the clerk. Moved by Mr. Bates, " That the report as read be adopted, aad that the Inspector be instructed to proceed at once with the various works mentioned therein."—Seconded by Mr, McFarlane, and carried. A number of accounts, amounting in the whole to £291 12s, were then passed and ordered to be paid. Ordered :. " That the Slaughter-house Act, 1877, be brought into operation in this county on the Ist January, 1881.".—[Own Correspondent, September 22,]
