THAMES, Saturday. A fire broke out this morniug in Driscoll's Hotel, Moanataiari Creek, and speedily demolished it, with the store of T. A. Bennett adjoining. The occupants of tho hotel were Mrs. < riscoll and a man named Felix Lavery, the latter of whom waß dragged out of the burning building by some neighbours in a helpless state of stupefaction from drink. Driscoll was absent at Auckland at the time, and Mrs. Driscoll eEcaped from the burning building in her night clothes. The greatest sufferer is Bennett, the storekeeper, who was unable to do more that, save a few articles of furniture, and remove hia family to a olace of safety ere the store and dwelling were consumed. Airs. Driscoll states she retired before 12 o'clock, extinguishing all lis>ht3, and gave Fe'ix Lavery permission to remain on the premises because he had taken too much liquor, and would not leave. The fire was observed fir3t in the front part of the hotel. The furniture and stock of the hotel were insured in the Norwich Union for £'200. The building was the property of Ehreufried, brewer.
