The above votes are all exclusive of amounts expended up to 30th September iast, or liabilities to that date. The school buildings vote for tbo whole colony is £175,000; native schools, £4000, and D.-af and Dumb Institution, £2000. In the Land Purchase Department there is a vote of £321 to Mr. O. O. Davis, for services in 1877-78 ; purchase of land, £75,000, and opening up ro.ids and bridges through lands recently purchased, £25,000. The coutingent defence vote is £140,000.
