POLICE COURT.— Saturday. IBofuro H. U. liarstow, Esq., K.M.J

DnuNKKSNKss. — Five drunkards were brought before bis Wcrship aud fined in the usual amount, or (in default) to undergo the ordinary term of imprisonment for such offence.

Larceny.—Sarah J. Evau*, a child of 11 years of age, was brought up charged with stealing a gold brooch, worth £3. The circumstaiicee of thie case were of the usual kind. The property was carelessly set aside, and the child, a precocioHS little creature, was overcome by the temptation to appropriate it. The case was proved, and the prisoner was sent to St. Mary's Orphanage for two years.

Cutting asb Wounding.—Thomas Oiltiilan, a man of colour, was brought before the Bench charged with feloniously cutting aud wounding Frederick Vermier with a knife. The parties were lodgers in a board-ing-house in Victoria-street, and were under th'i iulluenee of liquor. Sub-Inspector Parcly applied for a remand until Monday, which was granted.

Assaulting the Police.—John McCarthy was charged with being drunk and assaulting Constable Jones. The circumstances of tho case were of the ordinary kind. The constable wae conducting tho prisoner to the lock-up. He turned on the constable, handled him severely, tore his uniform, and committed considerable damage. The prisoner waa sentenced to pay 10s and cost?, or euffer 4S hours' imprisonment, for being drunk. He was further ordered to pay oOs for damage done to the con-sfc-.ble's uniform, or (in default) 14 days' additional imprisonment.

Assaulting the I'olile.—Thomas Caiues was charged with assaulting Detective Jeffrey on the Ellerslie Racecourse. Tbis was a case arising out of the stimulated excitement of the races. He failed to attend to remonstrance, aud was therefore locked up for safe keeping. The prisoner was lined 10s and costs, or 4S hours' imprisonment.

Assault. —Samuel Kinir, charged with assaulting Edward Scott at the Waiuui, was remanded to the sth of January.
