COLLEGE AND GRAMMAR SCHOOL.
A meeting of the Roard of Grammar School Goveruora was held yesterday, at the secretary's office, corner of Shortland and O'Connell streets. Present: Dr. Campbell (chairman, presiding), Colouel flaultain, Messrs. G. M. O'liorke, M.tf.K., Theo. Heale, and F. D. Fenton. The minute 3of last meeting were read an<i contirmetl.
KVENINO Classes. — Mr. W. J. Napier wrote relative to a reduction of the fees charged for attendance at the evening classes. —It was agreed to postpone the consideration of letter until next meeting.
Dkawino-mastek. — Mr. Kennett Watkins applied for appointment to the position of d-awing-master.— The application was referred to the head master.
Allowance.—Mr. Paul Murphy, a tenant of the Boird, applied for an allowance towards repairing his premises.—lt was agreed to make a grar.t of £5 for tho purpose stated. Royal, Commission. —A letter was received from tho Secretary of the Royal Commission of Education, asking for the returns and aumial report, and also for information as to the evening classes. He requested an early reply, aa tho Koyal Commission would meet early in January at the Canterbury College. —It was agreed to furnish the requisite information aud the secretary was instructed to do so.
Singing Classes. —Tho head-master reported that arrangements could be made for singing ela-ses in the College, as proposed by Mr. Cianwell. It was agreed to postpone the consideration of the subject. . Fencing College Groumjs.—Messrs. E. Mahoney and Son furnished an estimate of tho cost of fencing the College grounds.
Insurance. —It was agreed to insure tho new College and furniture for £0000.
Janitor.—Mr. Burliegh sent in an application for the offices of janitor aud drillinstructor, accompanied by testimonials. Tbe Chairman and other members of the Board spoke highly of the applicant's character and qualifications, and it was agreed to offer him a salary of £125 a-year, with a free house, light, water, and fuel.
Boardroom.—lt was agreed to have one room in the new College fitted up, 80 as to be suitable for the meetings of the Board of Governors, and Colonel Haultain and the chairman were appointed to make the necessary arrangements. Examiner's Reports.—The reports of Mr. H. H. Lusk and the Rev. 0. M. Nelson, the examiners who conducted the recent examinations were received, and laid on the table for the information o£ the governors. Adjournments.—The Board then adjourned for a fortnight
