[BIT TELKGBAPH, OWJf CORRESPONDENT.] Wellington, Friday. The Tariff Committee recently appointed by the House of .Representatives last night brought up the following report:—The committee appointed to consider and report on the queation of whr.t relief can be afforded to manufacturer?! in thia colony, by lessening or or abolishing duties at present levied on articles need by them in their respective manufactures, and on other mean 3 by which the establishment of colonial industries may be promoted, have the honor to make the following interim report:—The committtee recommend ths following articles to be admitted free of duty : Grindery, except heel and toe-plates, boot lining, morocco, roan, japanned, and enamelled leather, sealskins and goatskins, saddlers' ironmongery and harness, carriage bolts, nuts, screws, tiro bolts, shi'jkle holders, and other iron fitting?, batters' material, almonds used in confectioners' manufactures, sheet zinc, plain galvanised iroD, metal frames for bags and sat?ht>ls, The committee rfcaointnended that certain duties be increased as follows :—CandUa other than tallow, ljd per lb. instead of Id per lb.; sashes (plain\ 2s per pair; saohes (glazsd with ornamental glass), 4s per pair ; doors (plain), 2s 6d; doors (glazed with ornamental glass), 4? each; and that the duty on Australian wine be restored to 43 pergallon. The committee do not recommend an import duty on coal, but consider it advisable that, in order to assist coal mining industries, the port dues of coal ports, as well as railway charges on coal, be reduced to the lowest possible point.
