MANGONUI.

At the R. M. Court on Tuesday, the 7th July, before Messrs. Ball and Sonbritzky, J.P.'s, the following cases were tried.7 Freer v. Hazard.—lt appears that some time ago the Wbakapaka Board issued tenders for making a road over the mud flat, and amongst those who tendered were Hazard and Freer. Hazard being the lowest got the job, and the Board very unwisely _ap-' pointed Freer overseerof works, whioliappointment ended in a breach between Freer and Hazard, insomuch that Fre«r was removed from being overseer. When the job was taken, Freer gave Hazard permission to lire in a nikau hut that was on his land. After some trouble this same hut was made habitable, but when Freer and Hazard ceased to be friends, Freer ordered Hazard to clear out of this hut. This Hazard aid, and it appears it was a clear-out, for, whether by accident or design, Bhortly after Hazard left the hut appeared minus its covering. The action was brought under the Malicious Injury to Property Act, damages laid at £1. The Court inflicted a fine of 10s and costs, amounting altogether to £2. The Bench made some very severe remarks about the case, and said it was altogether from vindictivenes3 that the case was brought.—[Own Correspondent July B.]
