Lord Cairns, Lord High Chancellor, introduced a bill, as a Government measure, to supersede the one brought in by the Irish members in the House of Commons, to establish a Catholic University in Ireland similar to the London University, with the power to grant degrees and to receive the endowments of the Queen's University, which, in some cases, should be virtually suppressed.

[FROM OUR OAVJT CORRESPONDENT.] Melbourne, July 2. The Harbour Trust intend to ask Parliament to sanction tlieir borrowing one million additional to carry out Sir John Coocle's scheme. The Aye anticipates a deficiency in the Victorian revenue of £200,000, and believes that the Treasurer will be compelled to impose further taxation to the extent of £400,000, through the Customs excise and stamp duties. fp.£UT£ll : S TELEGRAMS.] Sydney, July 2. The health of the Chief Justice, Sir James Martin, is much better. It is unlikely he will resign. The Legislative Council Amendment Act has been read a second time. Six ostriches have arrived from the Cape as the nucleus of an ostrich farm. Arrived yesterday, the s.s. Tararua, from Auckland, Melbourne, July 2. It is believed that the revenue shews a large falling off as compared with the estimates. The deficiency is at least £200,000. The Aye, the Government organ, anticipates a falling off of £60,000 at least, and that from £30d,000 to £400,000 will be necessary to meet the deficiency. The Victorian Reform League have adopted a constitutional reform, and a progressive land tax as tlieir objects. Adelaide, June 2. The Government intend to introduce a bill to amend the constitution of the Legislative Council.
