THE GOVERNOR'S VISIT.
His Excellency the Governor was a good deal about town yesterday, making himself acquainted with the appearance of the city, and the resources and business of the place. Amongst other shops which he visited was that of Mr. Shakespeare, who has in stock a very large variety of sewing machines. Sir Hercules appeared to take a great deal of interest in the ingenuity and adaptability of these labour-savers, and Mr. Shakespeare brought under his notice the various improvements which had recently been made. To-day, His Excellency Sir JHercules Robinson and the Hon. Lady Robinson, the Elon. Colonel Whitmore, Captain St. John, A.D.C., Mrs. St. John, Miss RobiDßon, and the Rev. C. MeyseyThompson, Private Secretary, will leave Auckland for Wellington, via the Manukau. They will leave by special train. There will be no demonstration, but his Worship the Mayor, the Chairman of the Harbour Board, and a few others will be at the railway station to bid His Excellency and suife good-bye. It is to be regretted that the weather during the stay of the vice-regal party here has not been of such a favourable character as to afford them full opportunity to enjoy the climate and scenery of Auckland. We trust that on their next visit, at the close of the session, they will have better fortune. While on the subject, we might suggest to the Government the desirability of a vote to bavo Government House put into a good state of repair.
