THE GOLDFIELDS.

[from ouk own correspondent.] Thames, Thursday. MoAnataiari. — Yesterday, on breaking down the No. 3 reef, in the drive on the tunnel level, about 501bs. of very good specimens -were obtained. The block of ground from which these specimens were broken ia eastward of Williams and party's tribute block. Above the tunnel level the company have about 25 feet of backs on the reef. The lode ia small, and, consequently, does not yield much crushing dirt. In the present face it is about six inches thick. Between the tunnel level and the SO-feet level a block of ground has just bean opened up, and stoping operations have just been commenced. Although the stone has a likely appearance, and contains good mineral indications, only a few colours of gold have been seen in the quartz. Tho company, however, have a loDg length on tho line of reef to prospect, and there is every probability of their meeting with many patches of gold similar to the one obtained yesterday. Point Ruasell section : The reef in the stopes of this portion of the mine is looking well, and the quartz broken out is of a very promising character. Small parcels of picked stone are occasionally obtained. There is no change of any importance in tho other portions of the mine. Cure. —Since cutting the cross lodo, the manager has had a party of men engaged driving upon it. The lode is very email, and although it has been driven upon some distance, no gold has been seen in it aa yet. The country is very tight, and progress is consequently somewhat slow. It is however, of a favourable character for carrying gold bearing atont. It is possible that, in passing through the No. 6 lode, tho run of gold in tho cross leader may have been cut, and that before another run of gold is met with, the leader will have to be driven upon a considerable distance. The drive on No. G will be resumed shortly, and pushed forward until Gilmour's leader is intersected. [by telegraph.] Thames, Thnrsday. Gold Returns. —Cure tribute, Gilmour and party, G2ozs. ; Alburnia tribute, Job and party, lloza. lodwts. CaKE. — Gilmour and party, who are tributing in this mine, have crushed a parcel of about 13 tons of general dirt, for the excellent return of 62ozs of meltod gold. Alisurnia. —The tributes, Job and paity, have crushed a parcel of geueral stuff, for the yield of llozs. lodwts. of melted gold. Waiotahi.—The main cross-cut on the now level has been driven about 130 feet. Another lode has been intersected, but the manager is uncertain whether it is the No. sor not. At the present time the lode is very much disturbed and broken up. Kuranui.—At the battery 30 head of stampers are employed crushing for the company. Cleaning-up and retorting will not take place until all the quartz on hand has been put through. The supply this month has not been quite bo large as that of last month.
