THE VICEREGAL VISIT.

During yesterday forenoon, Lady Robinson, accompanied by Captain St. John, Mrs. St. John and Miss Robiason, visited the chief portions of the city, and were apparently pleased with the business portion of the town. THE LEVEE. At noon an undress levee was held by His Excellency the Governor. There was a large attendance, which testified the desire of the citizens to become acquainted with our new Governor. His Excellency was attended by the Rev. C. Meysey-Thotnp3on, private secretary; Captain St. John, aide-de-camp; the Hon. J. Sheehan, Native and Defence Minister ; Hon. Colonel Whitmore, Colonial Secretary; the Right Rev. Dr. Cowie, Bishop of Auckland; Mr. Justice Gillies, and Captain Cook (H.M. s. Emerald); Rewi Maniapoto and other influential Maori chiefs were also present. The presentation of representative natives was by no means the least interesting part of the levee. A number of influential native chiefs were introduced by the Hon. the Native Minister, Mr. J. C. Young interpreting the names and titles to the aide-camp. The following chiefs were introduced :—Rewi Maniapoto, Paora Tuhaere, Major Te Wheoro, Marsh Brown, Sydney Taiwhanga, Hori te Whetuki (Long George), Rin?ora Te Ao, Retireti Tapsall, Honi te Hauiti, Honi Mohi Tawha, Hitire te Piriti, Hore Wetere, Te Waiatua, Reniti Kukutai, Hemere Tauhia, Te Pure Tiopero, Wikiriwhi, Te Teire, Matanga, Te Aroha, representing the tribes of the Ngapuhi, Ngatiwhatna, Rarawa, Taaranga, Maketn, Waikato, Taupo, Bay of Plenty, and Lake districts generally. LADY ROBINSON'S RECEPTION. Lady Robinson held a reception in the afternoon. There was a large attendance, ' about 200 ladies having been presented.
