HOKIANGA COUNTY COUNCIL.
The monthly meeting of the Council, adjourned from the 12th inst., was held in the Court-house, Herd's Point, on the 26th inat., at 8 p.m. Present: Councillors Bates (chairman), Bryers, Cochrane, and Wharerau. —The minutes of the last meeting were read and. confirmed. Various letters was read and received.—Moved by Mr. Cochrane, " That Mr. Ogle's letter, re the improvements to his land at Pukeaitanga, be forwarded to the Chairman of the Waste Lands Board, at Auckland." Seconded by Mr. Bryers, and carried.—Moved by Mr. Cochrane, That the report of the Mangakahia Road, laid on the table by Mr. Wharerau, be received, and .that a letter be written to the Bay of Islauds County Council, asking them to contribute half o£ the cost of the proposed repairs to the said road. Seconded by Mr. Bryers, and carried.—Moved by Mr. Bates, " That the report of the Inspector of Works, laid on the table, be received." Seconded by Mr. Cochrane, and carried. —The balance due to Messrs. Bedggood Brothers, on account of the erection of the Taheke Bridge, a sum of £374 Gs 9d, was passed. Various accounts, amounting in all to £29 10s 9d, were passed and ordered to be paid.—Moved by Mr. Bates, "That the Inspector of Works be instructed to make arrangements with the natives at Taheke, Mokaraka, and others, for forming the approaches to and painting and tarring the Taheke Bridge, such works not to exceed in cost the sum of £226." Seconded by Mr. Wharerau and carried.— Moved by Mr. Bates, " That Messrs. Bryers aud Cochrance be appointed to countersign cheques for the payments authorised at this meeting." Seconded by Mr. Wharerau and carried.—Moved by Mr. Bates, " That the time for receiving the reports of the committees for brands and County rates be extended to the next ordinary meeting of the Council, on the 9th of June." Seconded by Mr. Cochrane, and carried.—Moved by Mr. Bryers, " That a sum of £750 be expended in forming the road, and repairing the bridges, between Putete and Puata; the work to be carried out under the supervision of the Inspector of Works." Seconded by Mr. Bates, and carried. This concluded the business, and the Council rose.—[Own Correspondent, May 27.]
