THEATRE ROYAL — COMIC OPERA.

The performance of " The Sorcerer" on Saturday evening brought what, we presume, may be called the interim season of the new comic opera to a moat successful conclusion. There was, as on every previous evening, an excellent house. The quality of the audience also secured a critical attention which made the applause that greeted the performers all the more satisfactory. As to the performance itself, it derived something of its eclat from the real cordiality of its reception ; but its claims are even greater than have been accorded to it. Few people would have thought that in Auckland such an enterprise could have had bo successful a result. The fact is now beyond a doubt. It is highly creditable to the performers. It reflects credit upon the musical culture of this place, which must have had an important sltare in developing their talents. The public have not been niggard of their patronage, and there is not a question but the pleasure they have derived from their visits to the theatre during the past week affords ample proof that their patronage has been properly bestowed. Prom the rise to the fall of the curtain on Saturday night the applause was frequent and emphatic. This short season of opera has been a surprise of the moat agreeable kind, and beiDg so agreeable was thoroughly enjoyed. We believe we are justified in saying that we have not heard the last of this really brilliant little company. They are reht-arsing Sullivan's comic opera "H.M. 88. Pinafore," which will be produced in good time, although the exact date ig not at present fixed. We. cannot conceive a better entertainment to grace the reception of his Excellency the Governor when he arrives in Auckland, than a " special night" with " The Sorcerer" in the "bill."
