AMUSEMENTS.
Theatre Royal.—There was a revival oi Robert Brough's extravaganza, entitled " Tr.3 Field of the Cloth of Gold,*' at the theatre on Saturday night. It is due to the management that they_ evinced praiseworthy pains and care by mounting the piece in a manner that was creditable to the theme as well as to the author. Mr. Brough was one of a set of young men who sought to put history upon the stage in .the form of burlesque, compensating for the strain of the caricature by richness of colouiicg. The citle is rich in itself, and suggests the attractiveness .of this species of entertainment. There were several new and well-painted scenes, and the dresses were for the most part varied as well as rich and appropriate. Alice Johns was Darnley; Miss Jennie Nye, Lady Constance de Grey; Miss Lizzie Morgan, Anne Boleyn; Le Sieur de Boissy, Miss Amy Johns; Beos de la Foix, Miss Marian Liston; Mr. Eydes, Queen Catherine; Mr. Love, Henry Till.; Mr. Emmet, Francis I. These historical personages appear to have a lively interest in the history of the present time, for they indulge in studied anachronisms in good, bad, and iudifferent, and somehow, even the badness of a joke derives a good deal of merit from its very extravagance. The ladies of the company conferred upon the piece all the attractions either the requirements of the several parts or the excellent taste in dress could contribute. The singing and dancing were very good, and the medleys and local 11 hits" provoked laughter. even where they missed their special object. There was a good house ill the lower parts, although dress circle was thinly attended. There was a l'relty little comedy before the burlesque, titled, We All Have Our Little Faults, which was very well played. This programme will be repeated this evening. Lorne-street Hall.—Messrs. Baker and Farron appeared on Saturday at this hall, aoJ were honoured by a good The piece W& 5 " Conrad aud Lizette," which is so well known as to require no description. The principal attraction were the songs and dances,— all el which elicited applause. This evening I- : Eccles" will be produced.
