The schooner "Edith entered out at the Cussoms yesterday for the Society Islands, and will tail on Friday or Saturday. The schooner Muze.ipa's destination has been finally settled, and she will sail on Saturday night for Rarotonga, and thence on a trading cruiso through the Islands. The three-masted schooner Fairlie cleared at the Onehunga Customs yesterday, and will sail for Newcastle to-day. The German schooner Vavoa cleared at the Customs yesterday for Tonga and Samoa, and *»?L1! sail with the first favourable change of wind. During her stay in port she has undergone a thorough repair and overhaul at the hfinds of Messrs. Niccol and Sons, and now returns to the Islands in first-rate order. The following passengers proceed in her :—Miss Hary Day, Mr. T. Day, and Ah Poel. The schooner Atalanta cleared at the Onehunga Customs yestenUy for "Waitara, and will load at the Manukau Heads with timber for that port. The Union Co.'s s.s. Hawea, from East Coast ports and the South, is expected to arrive in harbour between S and 9 o'clock this evening. The A.S.S. Co.'s s.s. Pretty Jane sailed last night for Gisborns, with several passengers and i. large general cargo. The s.s. Roweua sailed yesterday evening for Mercury Bay and Tauranga, with passengers and cargo. The schooner Agnes Donald, from Levuka, is now due, and may put in an appearance at any moment. She will be detained in port only a very short time, —having a very large cargo to return with. The brigantine Ethel sailed yesterday for To Koptiru, Ksijt-ira, where she loads timber for "Wellington. She has been chartered for three trips to the s.\me port. The Union Co.'s s.s. "Wellington sailed yesterday morning, from Onehunga, for New Plymouth and the South, with passengers and cargo. The s.s. Rotomahana will arrive in harbour from the Thames about 2 p.m. to-day, but will not return to the Goldtields until 4 p.m. on Friday. The schooner Iv-ite McGregor, now at Timaru, lias been chartered by Mr. John Lamb to proceed to Oamaru, and there load with wheat for this port. The s.s. Tararua arrived at Russell at 5 a.m. yesterday, and sailed in the afternoon for Sydney. The schooner Caledonia arrived in harbour yesterday at noon from the Savage Islands, with a quantity of cotton and fungu3. She has made an exceptionally quick round trip of 24 days, and her appearance rather surprised her owners and charterers. Captain Lombard stated when he left that he would be back in time for the regatta, but he hardly expected to be here so soon as this. The schooner met with good weather, and proved what she could do when a chance arose. Auckland was left on Sunday, the 15th ult., with a northerly wind as far as the Great Barrier. It then gradually veered round to the westward, and Savage Island was made on the 26th. Weighed anchor for the homeward voyage on the evening of the 2Sth, and experienced light easterly weather until making the Poor Kuights at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, and thence light winds into port. The Mission barquentine Southern Cross came up the harbour last night, and was put in the dock to undergo an overhaul before proceeding on her cruise again. ANNUAL SUMiIAEV OF VESSELS OWXED AT THE PORT OF AUCKLAND ON" DEC. 31, 1573. The following are the number of vessels, with their tonnage, owned in the port of Auckland at the close of 1873, and from it will be seen rbat there is a considerable increase upon 1877. The number of vessels on the register at the close of last year was 204, with a gross tonuage of 15,792. "While the number of vessels o.t the close of 1877 was 2GG, with a gross ton rage of 14,896, shewing an increase for 1878 of 896 tons, which increase consists mostly in sailing vessels over 50 tons register.
