ONEHUNGA BOROUGH.

The ordinary meeting of the Council was held on Monday evening. Present: -The Mayor (T. G. Blake}-), Councillors Clark, (Jodlin, Karle, Hartnetfc, Hastie, Jackson, Melntyre, and Nielson. Auctioneers' Licences.—A legal opinion was furnished on this question, but the solicitor had omitted to sign the document. CdACEi Licences.—On the report of a committee, it was agreed not to disturb the present arrangement with the B rough of Auckland for this year. Grkex Hill Reserve.—lt was agreed, on the motion of Air. Jackson, to receive applications from persons willing to act as care takers of this recreation ground. Main* Road.—Mr. Jackson called attention to some very dangerous holes in the main road, at one of which an accident had nearly occurred ; and he felt persuaded, notwithstanding the dispute between the Government and the Council as to the keeping this road in repair, the Council would be held liable. He, therefore, moved, " That the dangerous places he repaired at once ; and that the Government be informed this step was taken by the Council solely to protect lifo and limb, and not to be considered in any way as a waiver of their.claim on the Government."—The first part of this resolution was strongly opposed by Messrs. Codlin, Clark, and Melntyre, oa the ground that the road should be maintained by the Government, and the Couucil would not bo liable for accidents.—The resolution was, however, carried by 5 to 4. Library' Site.—No explanation received from the solicitor as to why he had not complied with the instruction to draw up thiß lease. Sundry accounts were passed. An extensive trade sale will be held to-day by Messrs. E. and A. Isaacs, of coatings, Hessian, and tailors' material of various kinds; also a large assortment of shirting, shirt-fronts, scarves, &c. The goods will be offered in trade lines.
