SERIOUS CHARGE AGAINST A BOY.

Joiitf McComisii, a lad about 13 y cars t age, -was arrested yesterday, on the serious change of attempting to set fire to ths premises oE George Daniels, East strect Newton. The circumstance;? were reported to the police at an early hour yesterday morning, but it was not until afternoon that matters were brought to a climax, and the lad arrested. He will be charged at the olica Court to day. The following are the circumstances of this novel attempt at fire, raising : —ln East-street, Newton, there is j house occupied by a man named Daniels a niuht watchman, and at 9 o'clock at night'an express-driver saw some fire under the house. He gave the alarm, and Mrs. Daniel" came out. She found some burning matter under the house, and detected tile am >11 of kauri gum. The lad, who had been absent from homo on the previous night, was arrested yesterday evening by Constable Abrams, and he will be brought up to answer the charge at the Police Court today. It is a s'rious charge to prefer against a hoy, and, as no motive is attributed, itmay lic that 110 was only engaged in the preparation of fireworks.
