ONEHUNGA BOROUGH.
The nomination for the office of Mayor took placo at the Court-house on Monday. At 12 noon the returning officers, Mr. O'Callaghan, announced that two duly qualified gentlemen had been nominated—Mr. T. G. Blakey and Mr. G. Codlin,— and that the polling would take place on Wednesday, the 27th. —Mr. Codlin said'a few words. tie trusted to his course of conduct in town matters for many years past, and felt it would not be necessary to make any promises for the future. It had, however, been reported that he was in favour of spending a large sum of money, to make a road across the mouth of the Basin. On this question he would promise that if tho subject was brought on in the Council, he would remain neutral.—Mr. Blakey made a longer speech. He was a canditate on the written request of the burgesses and was first in the field, so the opposition did not come from him. If eleutud, he would endeavour to conduct the business within the four corners of tho Act which incorporated them, and not attempt to legalise illegal act 3 by sophistry.—Mr. Clark put a question to Mr. Blakey. — Mr. Blakey said he would reply to any question from the burgesses, but must decline to answer any "catch" questiou put by a councillor who was a strong opponent. About thirty burgesses were present.
