THE AUCKLAND BKIOANTINK OMAHA AKIIOKE AT THECHATH4.M ISLANDS. We extract the following from a Southern contemporary, oer correspondent's letter by the I«Und Lily hating, we believe, none astray : -

On March 21st, 1878, the brigantine Omaha went Mhore at WaiUngi, Chatham Islands, o wing to heavy weather. An inquiry was held before J. Deighton, Esq., 8.M., »t Waitangi. The evidence given shewed that on March 21et it came on to blow hard from the N.W., and the heavy sea that soon, got up obliged the Omaha to slip her anchor. This was eucceeefully accomplished, but in trying to beat out ©f the bay the veaeel missed stays after making one board, and touched the reef, the sea heaving her up on to it. For two tides the vessel lay •n the reef, but during that time she wai thoroughly emptied, and on* of her anchors run out to heave her off. At the expiration of two days she came off, and by heaving on her chain and setting all her canvas eke waa safely got off into deep water. The Court exonerated Capt. Hughes from all blame in the matter. The Omaha has been beached in Dampier's Bay, to be surveyed by Cs.ptain Dunsford for the in■urance companies. The damage she has «us taiued is very slight. HOKIANGA SHIPPING. Loading.—Rene and Ulysse. These vessels are fast filling up, and will be ready for sea at the end of this week. The Geelonj? has not yet shewn up with a raft of timber from Whtngape, but is expected daily. From all appearances the weather has been very bad on the coast.—[Own Correspondent, May 14.]
